Baltimore to Bourke 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

Baltimore Album Quilts feature flora, animals found in the Baltimore area of America … I have been very slowly working on block designs featuring flora, fauna and human activities in the land down under, Australia.

Today’s  first design features some of the fauna … and a couple of flora.

The second design is starting to look a little bit like an old fashion album quilt, with a very strong Australian flavour, including a house typical of old farm houses around the country, and a human touch of a stockman about to mount his horse to round up some cattle.

Baltimore to Bourke 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

Australian flowers in the centre are surrounded by birds and animals which are also native to Australia. The only imports are the pile of books and the apple.

The background colours represent a large proportion of the country in the summer, and some of the country almost all the time.

Baltimore to Bourke 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

The previous post is not the only long term UFO in my Virtual Quilt pile … the original idea was to design an Australian version of a Baltimore style applique quilt, and then actually add it to the WIP pile.

I think I am getting close to what I want! And I have decided on the background fabric.

Baltimore to Bourke 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

I did this design while trying to work out a good, neutral background colour when there are pieces of white in the objects, and a lot of the alternatives are also used in the applique. I like the design, but not impressed with the background.

Little bit better!
